Women in Computing Hackathon

Wednesday 21st June

10:00-15:00

This hackathon will explore the ethical use of chatbots with a focus on the demands of the female audience. Students will work in teams to come up with an IT solution that addresses issues related to gender and one or more of these areas:

  • Education,
  • Healthcare support
  • Safety measures
  • Surveillance and privacy
  • Changes in forms of work.

Each team will be paired with a female academic, who will mentor them throughout the challenge. With a focus on teamwork, design thinking and prototyping, we want to look for women with innovative tech solutions that explore the potential of using chatbots. This session is suitable for students in Y10-Y13.

What is a Chatbot?

A chatbot is a tool which can talk to a person in natural language through messaging apps, websites, speech/voice and other digital platforms. It can respond by pre-programmed directives or have answers generated by artificial intelligence. A chatbot can streamline customer service, marketing campaigns, and even product sales.
