The Department of Service Sector Management offers courses in Hospitality, Tourism and Aviation, Events Management and Food and Nutrition. We pride ourselves on the applied nature of our courses and the focus we have on employability.
Tourism, Aviation and Hospitality
Our tourism, aviation and hospitality courses combine practical experience with academic understanding to help students succeed in these global industries. We use guest speakers, student consultancy, simulated learning and live project briefs to equip our students with the skills they need and ensure they are industry ready.
We are one of only three institutions in the world to achieve international accreditation from EPAS for our undergraduate hospitality and tourism degrees. Applied learning is at the heart of our courses and students can take an optional work placement or a semester overseas to tailor their studies to their own individual career interests.
We deliver taster sessions throughout the year, please enquire now for more information.
Events Management
Our Events Management courses prepare students for every aspect of an exciting career in events. Students will learn the principles of event design and delivery, marketing, people and safety management. They’ll also start thinking strategically and creatively about events, festivals, and esports in a variety of commercial contexts. They’ll take part in activity-based learning and work experience in every year of the courses, including the production of their own live event.
Our brilliant team of experts in the department have a series of interactive and stimulating talks and workshops that detail our approach to delivering high quality courses and exceptional student experience. We can facilitate specific one-off sessions or bigger taster days that include wider aspects of university life. We can usually be flexible, and activity can be arranged both on and off campus at a time and date to suit you.
Food and Nutrition
Food and nutrition specialists are always in demand, playing crucial roles in everything from product development to public health. On our food and nutrition courses students will engage with some of the most important ideas and debates in this fast-moving sector. All our food and nutrition lecturers have research or managerial experience, and we teach in state-of-the-art facilities, including sensory suites, development kitchens and laboratories. Students will also benefit from work experience, including a live consultancy project in the final year.
We will be running post-16 taster days in the summer term, so keep an eye out for updates or get in touch to be put on a wait list or find out more about the outreach offer.
