Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Maths and Physics
Our engineering courses give students a learning environment that’s as close as possible to the real world. Based in the £11 million Hertha Ayrton STEM Centre, they give students hands-on experience of the tools and equipment used in industry, from flight simulators, wind tunnels and automotive workshops to structural integrity, thermofluids and robotics labs. They also give students the chance to hone their skills on real projects and spend a year on a paid work placement.
On our mathematics course we have an applied approach to maths. Students learn to solve real-life problems like modelling a health epidemic, using data in credit scoring, and creating sports fixture lists. Our maths degree is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and can lead to students becoming a chartered mathematician. They can also pursue a career in areas such as finance, data analysis, computing and teaching.
Our Physic degree prepares students for a career in physics or any number of occupations in areas such as aerospace, defence, education, engineering, oil and gas, space exploration and telecommunications. We specialise in relating study to the real world – through work placements, mathematical modelling and conducting their own physics research, they’ll gain the knowledge and experience they need to forge a successful career.
Our brilliant team of experts in the department have a series of interactive and stimulating talks and workshops that detail our approach to delivering high quality courses and exceptional student experience. We can facilitate specific one-off sessions or bigger taster days that include wider aspects of university life. We can usually be flexible, and activity can be arranged both on and off campus at a time and date to suit you.
