How Do I Decide?
We categorise deciding in to 2 categories: “top-down”, and “bottom-up”.
If you have a career in mind; work top-down– pick the career, and decide the best route to get there. Consider university facilities/ paid placement opportunities/ universities’ industry partners.
If you don’t know what to do- do not worry! Taking a bottom-up approach you should consider: What are you good at? What do you enjoy? How do you want to learn? What are the employment rates?
What Do I Need To Do?
You create an application on the . The application is often started in school or college, and contains:
- Profile – Personal details/ educational history/ student support.
- Personal statement – Answer 3 questions about your motivation for study, academic and transferable skills and extra curricular experience.
- Teacher reference – Your teaching staff will do this, so make a good impression now
What are the Key Dates?
Apply a year before you want to start. Your school or colleges may have earlier, internal deadlines.
- September-October – Start with your application
- January – Equal Consideration Deadline. Your application needs to be completed and submitted
- March to May – Start receiving offers. You’ll need to log in to UCAS Track to check your offers
- June – Make your “Firm” (1st), and “Insurance” (2nd) choice. Open days are a great way to decide!
- July/ August – Get your results and confirm your place, or go through Clearing.
- September – Start your first year!
