Sheffield Hallam University
This summer Sheffield Hallam University will be hosting the IMA Festival of Mathematics and its Applications, a free two-day event which celebrates mathematics and all the wonderful things you can do with it. School groups and their teachers will be able to visit the festival on one or both days and take part in workshops, talks and a range of other activities.
With a packed programme on each day, you can explore the Charles Street building and watch talks from top mathematicians, meet SHU staff and hear about their research, design and create mathematical works of art, learn tricks from mathematical buskers, play a game of noughts and crosses against a sentient pile of matchboxes and get hands-on with some maths in action.
The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) is the professional body and learned society for qualified and practising mathematicians and exists to support the advancement of mathematical knowledge and its applications and to promote and enhance mathematical culture with over 5,000 members, comprising of mathematicians from all sectors, as well as those with an interest in mathematics.
We work alongside wider university departments to ensure we provide the most consistent and comprehensive support for schools and colleges.
