Built Environment Taster Days 2026-27
Sheffield Hallam University’s School of Engineering and Built Environment offers hands-on, industry-focused courses which prepare students for working in the real world. Students can attend one of our taster days to undertake a ‘student accommodation challenge’- this day will give students an opportunity to undertake a wide range of different roles within the built environment, to help inform their future career choices.
Student Accommodation Challenge Day
Students participate in a set day of activities which introduce them to the many aspects involved in working in different careers involved in the built environment. Following an introduction to built environment from our expert academics, students will be guided through project briefs, designing and building of their very own student accommodation structure. After lunch students’ buildings will be tested and the best designs will receive a prize.
Built Environment Taster Day
These taster days offer a mix of 2-3 masterclasses exploring topics related to the course subjects taught at Sheffield Hallam. Our masterclasses explore our facilities such as construction technology labs, surveying equipment, digital construction and building information modelling, so students can see what learning at Sheffield Hallam might be like.
These sessions are designed for Year 12 & 13, for a maximum of 40 students. Our set days are Wednesdays during teaching weeks. Dates for Semester 1:
- 30/09/2026
- 21/10/2026

Travel
We recommend planning your travel arrangements in advance. As a city-centre university, we do not have on-site parking available; however, there are nearby privately owned car parks that we can direct you to.
For environmental reasons, and as we are conveniently located next to Sheffield train station and the Sheffield bus interchange, we encourage travel by public transport whenever possible.
