ART, DESIGN AND MEDIA WEEK IS BACK!

Art, Design and Media Week with Sheffield Hallam University is a celebration of creative courses and careers.

The 2023 programme will run from 20th – 24th March.

Bookings for Art, Design and Media Week 2023 will open on Thursday 19th January. 


Monday 20th March

Animation Character Building

Time: 10:00-12:00

Location: City Campus, SHU

Age: Y7-Y13

Come and learn the basics of sculpting creatures for stop motion animation then create and make your very own ‘Creature’ that would fit in one of the optional bizarre ‘Worlds’.

Tuesday 21st March

Being a British independent film producer: A view from the bridge

Time: 10:00-12:00

Location: City Campus, SHU

Age: Y12-Y13

In this lecture the speaker will share 35 yrs of his experience working as a British Independent Film Producer. The lecture is augmented with clips from productions he has been involved in over the years. 

Wednesday 22nd March

Design café – insight driven product design

Time: 10:00-12:00

Location: City Campus, SHU

Age: Y9-Y13

This fast-paced, collaborative workshop introduces an industry standard design process tool. You’ll be provided with design insights to help you respond to an exciting design brief with lots of creative potential. Then you’ll be supported to develop creative concepts that address your challenge using a combination of sketch work, storyboarding and 3D prototypes.

All Styled Out

Time: 10:00-12:00

Age: Y9-Y13

Utilising new and second-hand garments & accessories to create stylised visual outcomes inspired by the subject of sustainability. Participants will be introduced to fashion styling and image-making through short presentation. Followed by hands-on workshop, encouraging students to create styling images for a proposed editorial feature about sustainable fashion.

Cinematic Space

Explore the creative, dream-like potential of Interior Architecture through film. Through watching and making short videos and reels you will delve into the dramatic world or interior environments and see how they express atmosphere and give a glimpse into the future.

The Future of Illustration

Time: 13:00-15:00

Join us in our illustration studio to explore the future of illustration. Marvel at the work our current students are making and then bring your own illustrations to life using augmented reality.

Plan and produce a TV programme!

In groups, learn to plan, present and produce a short piece for television based on a topical and newsworthy area of your choice.   In this session, participants will access our television suites and learn the basics of camerawork, presenting and using the green screen to edit and produce a programme.

Prototyping in Figma

Time: 10:00-12:00

Using the app prototyping software Figma to create interactive prototypes for apps and websites. The session will involve a demo of the software and a chance for students to play around with the software individually.
